BBA Approved Breathable Membrane
What is Breathable Roof Membrane?
WRAPTOR breather membrane is a three layered thermal lamination cover that provides a high level of water resistance, whilst allowing any excess moisture to be released to avoid mould and condensation. Breather membrane is a water resistant material mainly used in roofing construction and timber frame construction to prevent water from getting in; however, it can often be used as a house wrap, for extra coverage.
WRAPTOR is fully BBA approved for use in warm non-ventilated and cold ventilated and non-ventilated roofing construction, along with timber frame construction; providing UV resistance for up to 3 months.
Roofing membrane can be used as a roofing underlay and within timber frame walls with a cavity and masonry outer leaf, weatherboarding or tile/slate cladding. It has a good tensile strength and tear resistance and is incredibly durable.
WRATOR is available in 100gsm, 120gsm and 140gsm. The 100gsm membrane is available in a 1m roll and the 120gsm and 140gsm range is available in two lengths, 1m and 1.5m.
Benefits of Breathable Roofing Membrane
- Fully BBA approved for use in warm non-ventilated and cold ventilated and non-ventilated roofing construction; along with timber frame construction
- Extremely durable; excellent tensile and tearing strength
- Brilliant water resistance and vapour permeability
- Great UV resistance for up to 3 months
How does roofing membrane work?
Breathable roofing membrane is used within the construction industry; it is installed externally on buildings mainly to create a water-tight and vapour permeable layer for roofs but to also prevent debris from entering and causing damage. Often, breathable membrane can also be used as a house wrap, for the same reasons.
Roofing membrane is installed to the external side of the insulation to prevent any excess water currently or potentially getting through and damaging the structure. As the breathable membrane is vapour permeable, it allows ventilation and stops condensation from occurring and building up. If the breathable membrane is not installed, the moisture accumulation could result in a weakening of the structure and damp is likely to occur.
It is important the correct and most suitable thickness of the breathable membrane is applied to the construction. See below for guidance on the usage of WRAPTOR in relation to wind uplift pressure:
